What Massage Therapy Is and Who It Is For

Massage therapy is hands-on treatment of the muscles, soft tissue and joints. At Cypri Massage Therapy in Toronto, a session is shaped around your goal for the day. Some people come in wound tight from a desk and a long commute. Some are managing an old injury that flares up. Some need an hour where their nervous system can settle.

The work is meant to restore a sense of balance to the body while calming the mind, so the aim is both physical and mental. It suits office workers with stiff shoulders, parents carrying kids and grocery bags, runners and gym-goers, and anyone who holds stress in their neck and jaw. If you're dealing with ongoing tension that shows up as headaches, that is something massage may help ease.

What a Massage Session Looks Like

A first visit takes a little longer than a follow-up because we talk through your history before any treatment begins.

  1. 1

    A Short Intake

We go over your health history, what's bothering you, and what you want out of the session. You tell me the areas to focus on and the pressure you like.
  2. 2

    Getting Comfortable

I step out while you get on the table and under the sheet. Draping keeps you covered the whole time, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.
  3. 3

    The Treatment

Hands-on work through the muscles and soft tissue, checking in on pressure and comfort as we go. Say the word if you want more or less at any point.
  4. 4

    Afterwards

You may feel loose and a little tender the next day, which settles. Water and gentle movement help. We can talk about a home stretch or two if it fits.

What Massage Therapy Costs and What Covers It

Fees are posted and I go over them with you before we start, so there are no surprises. You get a receipt after each visit with the details your insurer needs.

Many extended health plans in Ontario cover massage therapy delivered by a Registered Massage Therapist. Coverage and limits vary by plan, so it's worth checking your own policy for the amount and whether a doctor's note is needed. If your massage relates to a workplace injury, WSIB coverage may apply in some cases, and I can talk you through what that involves.

Payment and any cancellation policy are explained up front. If cost is a concern, tell me and we can plan the visits around it.

Our Approach to Massage Therapy in Toronto

Care here comes from a Registered Massage Therapist, and every plan is made with you, not handed to you. We set a realistic goal, agree on the approach, and adjust as things change visit to visit. If something is outside what massage can help, I'll say so and point you toward the right person.

The clinic is at 16 Bristol Ave in Dovercourt Village, a straightforward trip from Bloordale, Dufferin Grove, Wallace Emerson and across the west end. If you are weighing up lymphatic massage instead, we can talk through which suits you. To ask a question first, get in touch.

Massage Therapy Questions, Answered

How often should I come in?

It depends on what you're dealing with. For ongoing tension, people often start closer together and space visits out as things settle. We agree on a plan at your first visit and adjust it as we go.

Do I need a doctor's referral to book?

No referral is needed to book with an RMT. Some insurance plans ask for one before they reimburse, so check your own policy if you plan to claim.

Do I have to undress completely?

No. You undress only to your comfort level, and draping keeps you covered throughout. Tell me what you prefer and we work with that.

Is it normal to feel sore after a massage?

Some tenderness the next day is common, especially after deeper work, and it usually settles within a day or two. Water and gentle movement help. Let me know at your next visit so I can adjust pressure.

Can I book a shorter session?

Yes. We offer different lengths, and I can suggest one based on how much area you want covered. This gets sorted when you book.
